TO LAKE ERIE LIGHTNING GIRLS’ AAU BASKETBALL!
The Lake Erie Lightning
Girls’ Amateur Athletic Union Basketball Club was established
in 1998. The intent of the club is to improve the quality of
girls’ basketball in the Monroe County Region. Athletes ages
10 through 17 are given the opportunity to improve and develop
their skill and knowledge in a fun and sportsmanlike atmosphere.
The Lake Erie Lightning
Girls Basketball Club is a member of the A.A.U. and competes
in A.A.U. sanctioned tournaments. A.A.U. member teams represent
the highest level of competition with the best athletes available.

information about the A.A.U.
Teams are made
up of girls selected each year through an open tryout process. If selected to a team, girls will typically practice
twice a week in the mid-evening hours at gyms across Monroe
County. Teams compete across the state on designated weekends
between mid-March and late April. State championships are
in early May for the 10-13 ages and in late May for the
14-17 ages.
There is a small
tryout fee ($25 for 2008) which provides each athlete with an A.A.U.
“AB” (Added Benefits) insurance policy. A small portion of the
tryout fee covers the cost of renting the tryout gym. Every
athlete must fill out a registration
form at the tryout and pay the tryout fee before they
will be permitted to participate in tryouts. For
information regarding the required AB insurance click here.
If a player is
selected to the team, a player’s fee will be collected at the
last tryout. The player’s fee pays for tournaments, uniforms,
coaches’ shirts and A/B cards, practice gym rental and
administrative costs. The fee for 2008 is $300.
